“It’s a great honor,” Papelbon said about getting the award, “I’m feeling great. Throwing zeros up there always helps.” Papelbon has been throwing up a lot of those zeros lately. After his August 17 start, Papelbon has now thrown 32 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
Papelbon made 34 appearances out of Daytona’s bullpen this season before recently being moved into a starting role. When asked which was better, Papelbon said he does not have a preference. “As long as our team’s winning it doesn’t matter.”
This is the second time a Daytona pitcher has received pitcher of the week honors. The other Cubs pitcher to do it was Marco Carrillo, who was honored for the June 30 through July 6 week.
On the season, Papelbon is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 70 2/3 innings pitched. The Cubs last home stand is August 26-28 against the Vero Beach Devil Rays. For ticket information please log onto www.daytonacubs.com or call (386) 257-3172.
