“The opportunity arose for our organization to partner with WROD and by doing so, we know our listeners will receive a well-produced broadcast,” said Daytona Cubs General Manager Bill Papierniak. “We are excited about the prospects of bringing in new listeners on WROD and reaching out to a greater population of baseball fans.”
The broadcasts of every Cubs game will begin with a pregame show 20-minutes before the listed opening pitch time. A half-hour post-game show featuring guest interviews and fan call-ins will follow the conclusion of each game. The first Cubs broadcast will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, when the Cubs open the season against the Brevard County Manatees.
WROD Owner and Managing Member Joseph Hopkins is thrilled about the upcoming season of Daytona Cubs baseball on AM1340. “We’re very happy with the new partnership formed between the Cubs and WROD. It feels great to forge a relationship that together will be a vital part of the community.”
As part of the agreement with the Cubs, WROD will be a significant presence at Jackie Robinson Ballpark with various signage and sponsorships.
WROD will air a special half-hour Daytona Cubs 2009 Season Preview at 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 7. The show will feature commentary from the Cubs broadcast team and interviews with players, coaches, and media members throughout the Cubs organization.
The agreement between the Cubs and WROD also includes the broadcast of seven high school baseball games to be played at Jackie Robinson Ballpark beginning Tuesday, February 17. The games will be called by the Cubs broadcast crew of Christian Bruey, Adam Eichstedt and Mike Silverman. Dates, times and teams can be found on the promotional schedule at www.daytonacubs.com.
