[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] The Cubs scored early and piled on late in a rubber game route, 6-0. Hung-Wen Chen was dominant for Daytona in this one. Chen went six innings and did not allow any runs in the Cubs first round series win. Daytona will play in Fort Myers tomorrow night.
Daytona got the early lead in this one. Ty Wright drove in the game’s first RBI in the top of the first inning. Blake Lalli followed that up with an RBI double off the centerfield wall. The Cubs took the early lead, 2-0.
Chen started the game by retiring the first 12 batters that he faced. Palm Beach seemed confused and off balance throughout the game. Chen threw six shutout innings for Daytona, allowing just three hits, no walks and he struck out three.
The Cubs offense struck again in the fifth inning. Jim Adduci smacked an RBI double to add on to the lead. Ty Wright tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt. It was successful, but the throw to first got away from Matt Arburr. The Cardinal third baseman was charged with an error, Adduci scored and Wright advanced to second base. Daytona doubled the lead, 4-0.
Daytona kept pushing home runs in the seventh. Adduci drilled another RBI double. Adduci advanced to third on the play at the plate. Wright scored the Cubs centerfielder on a fly ball to centerfield. It was 6-0 Cubs after six and a half innings.
