Thomas Wins MVP

Cubs’ All-Star Second Baseman Carries Team To Championship

[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] Daytona Cubs second baseman Tony Thomas added something extra to his awards collection after winning the 2008 Florida State League Championship. Thomas was named the MVP of the Florida State League Championship Series. Thomas earned eight of the nine first place votes (Darwin Barney) as voted on by members of the media.

“Without a doubt, this is probably the best ball I’ve played all year long,” said Thomas, a 2008 mid-season All-Star, after the win. Always a humble hero, Thomas was quick to deflect attention to his teammates. “Just probably the atmosphere, the chemistry, everything that was going on with the team—it was just a drive to win. Everybody on our team wanted it real bad.”

During the playoffs, Thomas led the league in batting average (.483), hits (14), runs (8) and RBI (8.) In the four games of the Florida State League Championship Series, Thomas was 8-for-17 with 3B, HR, 7 RBI and 3 R.
