BILL PAPIERNIAK - General Manager

Bill enters his tenth season in professional baseball and serves as the General Manager of the Daytona Cubs. He joined the Cubs in October of 2003 after gaining a combined 6 years of experience in Minor League Baseball with the Lynchburg Hillcats and Hagerstown Suns.

Bill was tabbed as the “Executive of the Year” for the Florida State League this past season.  Under his watchful eye, the Daytona Cubs franchise was recognized for its successful 2006 season and continued contribution to Minor League Baseball by being named the winner of Baseball America’s 2006 Bob Freitas “Organization of the Year” Award for the Single-A level.

Over his first three seasons with the organization, Papierniak has helped the Cubs set season attendance marks for three consecutive years at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, shatter sponsorship and corporate sales records and turn the club into an award-winner and one of the most respected in Minor League Baseball.

Prior to joining the Cubs, the Northern Virginia native was a member of the Hagerstown Suns in the South Atlantic League for two seasons finishing as the Assistant General Manager. During his tenure, the Suns were tabbed by ESPN in 2002 and 2003 with a “Veeckie” for top promotions in Minor League Baseball. For his efforts, Papierniak was named the 2002 South Atlantic League Sales Executive of the Year.

Bill spent the first four seasons of his Minor League Baseball career with the Carolina League’s Lynchburg Hillcats as the club’s Director of Group Sales and Promotions.

Bill is an ardent fan of the Washington Redskins, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and any Bobby Knight coached team.

“My favorite part of the job is the opportunity to put smiles on people’s faces.” One such opportunity was Opening Night 2005. “It was right after our renovation, it was our first sell-out in years. After all the hard work we put in, it was a tremendous feeling.”

Papierniak graduated from James Madison University with a B.B.A in management. He and his wife Michelle live in Port Orange along with their son Trae, 3, and their daughter Ainsley, 10 months, where they are members of Covenant United Methodist Church.
