2009 Cubs Hit the Books Reading Program
Daytona Cubs and Publix Super Markets
Partner in Reading Program for Schools
Expressing their commitment to reading, the Daytona Cubs and Publix Supermarkets have developed a reading incentive program for Volusia and Flagler County Schools. The program encompasses grades K-8. The program is not competitive; rather students have to meet reading requirements to complete the program. Students keep track of their progress on a bookmark that is provided by the Daytona Cubs. Upon completion of the program, students can take their completed bookmark that has been signed by their teacher and their parent or guardian to a Publix grocery store to receive two tickets to a 2009 Daytona Cubs game. This year’s designated “Reading Nights” will fall on Sunday, May 24th and Sunday, May 31st.
To kick off the program members of the Daytona Cubs staff and their mascot Cubby travel across the counties to put on a skit acting out “Casey at the Bat.” After the skit has been completed bookmarks are distributed to all students to begin their reading. The program is set-up for students to read outside of the classroom to their parent our guardian. In 2008 over 27,000 students participated in the program with the opportunity to catch a Daytona Cubs game. This year’s program will kick off on March 23rd and run until May 24th.
Daytona Cubs are committed to encouraging all children to Read-Read-Read! This program was set up on the intent for children to read outside of the class and to be rewarded for their efforts!
