READING PROGRAM Daytona Cubs and Daytona International Speedway Partner in Reading Program for Schools Expressing their commitment to reading, the Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona Cubs have developed a joint reading incentive program for Volusia County Schools. The program encompasses grades 1-9 and the targeted intensive reading classes in all high schools. It is not a competitive program. Instead, students just need to meet the reading requirements for completion at their grade level. Students keep track of their reading on a bookmark, with the Cubs “Hit the Books” program recorded on one side and the Speedway’s “Racing to Read” program recorded on the opposite side of the bookmark.
Upon completion of one program, students receive tickets to some very grand events donated by the sponsors. Rewards for “Hit the Books” include two tickets (one child and one adult) to a Daytona Cubs game at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on April 26 or May 11. Rewards for “Racing to Read” include the student’s choice of one of the following: two tickets to the Daytona 500 Qualifying and IPOWER DASH 150 on February 13, two tickets to Daytona USA, or one ticket to the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 plus IROC Series race on February 18. To top off this great program, a student may turn over their bookmark and work towards the goals of the second program! Volusia County’s two major sports organizations are committed to encouraging all children to Read – Read – Read! By collaborating they have provided a reading program with greater impact to students. |
