DAYTONA CUBS TO CELEBRATE GEOVANY SOTO ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HONOR

Following the announcement of Geovany Soto as the National League Rookie of the Year, the Daytona Cubs have decided to honor Soto with a bobblehead giveaway presented by Daniel Legal on Friday, June 12th. Soto was a member of the Daytona Cubs in 2003. He reached the majors two years later, but did not play a full season in the bigs until this year.

Daytona General Manager Bill Papierniak says, “It’s always fun to see players that have come through Daytona go on to have success in Chicago. We are looking forward to commemorating his outstanding year with a bobblehead.”

The keepsakes will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.

Soto became the fifth player in Chicago Cubs history to win the award, receiving 31 of 32 first place votes. The Cubs catcher hit .285 with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs in 2008.

He joins Billy Williams (1961), Ken Hubbs (1962), Jerome Walton (1989), and another former Daytona Cub, Kerry Wood (1998), as Cubs who have won the award.

Don’t miss your chance at a Geovany Soto bobblehead, or any of the 2009 season at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Tickets are on sale now at www.daytonacubs.com or call 386-257-3172.
