The winner of the best overall chili was Daytona Coca-Cola whose chili recipe actually included Coke. Daytona Coca-Cola went home with a cash prize of $500 and the championship trophy presented by Volusia Trophy and Awards. The fan favorite and winner of the People’s Choice Award was a concoction put together by 12 year old Hanz Brady and his team Louisiana Heat. The winner of the Best Cook Stand was The Chili Marshalls and The Most Unique Chili went to Gene’s Steak House and their filet mignon chipotle chili.
Daytona Cubs Special Events Director Laura Landry was pleased with the turn-out. “This was the fourth year of the chili cook-off. It had grown every year and I’m just happy we were able to continue that trend. She added, “It’s also nice to benefit such a great organization like the Halifax Humane Society.”
Development Director for the Halifax Humane Society Patti Thalheimer said, “We’re so grateful for everyone that came out and donated their time and money to help out the Humane Society. It was another fantastic event put on by the Daytona Cubs and we look forward to all of our future partnerships with the club.”
