EMPLOYMENT Daytona Cubs Internship Program: 2009 SEASON ONLY! The Daytona Cubs Internship Program is one that is designed to give interns experience in all aspects of running a minor league baseball team. The interns selected for the program will be rotated through each department, giving them an experience that is not focused in one area. The interns will gain experience in marketing, group sales, ticket sales, concessions, stadium operations, merchandise, and media relations. DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES Duties can be, but may not include, any of these plus any other duties assigned by staff. | Marketing: | - Assist staff in creating promotional ideas.
- Assist in creating databases of companies and customers.
- Learn aspects of selling and proposing marketing contracts.
- Announce on-field activities and promotions.
| | Group/Ticket Sales: | - Assist selling group ticket packages.
- Create and supervise a group event night Sell packages through cold calling, mailers, or door-to-door sales.
- Assist in nightly ticket sales reports.
| | Concessions: | - Learn the operational aspects of running a concession stand on a game day.
- Supervise game-day employees
- Assist in inventory and ordering of food.
- Understand and learn food preparation and safety.
| | Stadium Operations: | - Setting up the stadium for game days.
- Setting up kids zone, picnic area, and seating areas for groups.
- Make sure stadium is in working order for games.
| | Merchandise: | - Inventory items in stand and in storage.
- Fill on-line and telephone orders.
- Supervise game-day employees.
- Assist in merchandise sales reports.
| | Media Relations: | - Assist in writing game-day scripts.
- Learn how to use statistical programs and make stat packs.
- Assist in updating website and writing press releases.
| Hours in the off-season and on non-game days are Monday-Friday, 9 to 5. Hours during the season are considerably longer. Interns can expect to work more than 40 hours per week during the season. Internships are unpaid, but interns do receive commission on their sales and certain benefits. In the past interns have received discounted merchandise, discounted golf, free gym membership, free meals on game days, and a trip to the FSL ALL-Star game.
